Talk at Ecole des Mines de Nantes (20-01-2011)
Jordi Cabot, Leader of the AtlanMod MDE research team, invited me to speak at the Jeudi des Modèles conference series at the Ecole des Mines de Nantes. I will talk about the lessons learned during the development of a Model-Driven Software Factory. I will also explain how I came to the conclusion that there is no future for Model-Driven Development.
You can read the abstract of my talk at the website of the conference:
In this talk I will tell you my story of developing a successful Model Driven Software Factory with a fast growing user base.
I will cover topics like selecting a domain, designing DSLs, growing a DSL (evolution), generating the application, quality and testing, release planning, and creating a user base.
I will also tell you how I came to the conclusion that there is no future for Model-Driven Development.
Do you have plans to visit the Jeudi des Modeles 20-01-2011? Please let me know it in the comments!
I’m told that a lot of people in and around Nantes are involved in modeling and Model-Driven Development, so I’m looking forward to meeting this community and I hope we can learn a lot from each other.
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments and/or to propose suggestions for my talk.

Join DiscussionHello Johan,
Maybe I miss something but “there is no future for Model-Driven Development” seems to be in complete contradiction with what I am used to read here. What’s the point ?
I really wish I could come to Nantes to listen to your conference.
Regards,
Hi Nicolas,
The title is provocative on purpose of course 😉 I will post the slides and a description of my story after my talk in Nantes.
hi Johan
Eager to read your slides and, esp., more about your line “there is no future for Model-Driven Development”.
Intriguing !

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to travel to Nantes to hear your talk. But would be very interested to read your thoughts regarding “No Future for MDD”. Perhaps you could post a transcript of your talk soon after the event.
Based on my experiences with MBSE, I find the line blurring between embedded/internal DSLs and implementing applications in a product line engineering manner.
Thanks a lot for talking about useful subject.
